Terms of Service

The rules for using Hōbi as a warm, safe place to notice and keep meaningful moments.

Welcome to Hōbi

These Terms of Service apply when you use Hōbi, a Storytailor product designed for adults to notice, save, and revisit meaningful moments about a child in their Care Circle.

By creating an account, joining a Circle, or using Hōbi, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Who may use Hōbi

Hōbi is for adults. You must be at least 16 years old to create or use an account.

Children do not create accounts on Hōbi. Child profiles are created and managed by a parent, guardian, or another adult with authority to do so.

  • You must provide accurate information and keep your sign-in methods secure.
  • You may only create or manage a child profile if you have the right to do so.
  • You may only invite trusted adults who should have access to that child's Circle.

Accounts and security

You are responsible for activity that happens through your account and for keeping your sign-in methods and devices reasonably secure.

If you believe your account, a child profile, or your device has been accessed improperly, contact us right away and use the security controls available to you.

  • Optional security features such as passkeys, Face ID, or other biometric lock are there to help protect access to Hōbi, but you remain responsible for your device and account security.
  • You must not share access in a way that defeats Circle permissions or exposes child-profile information to someone who should not see it.

What Hōbi is and is not

Hōbi helps adults capture typed or voice-transcribed moments, coordinate support, and read weekly Portraits created from those moments. Hōbi is not an emergency service, a medical service, a therapy service, or a substitute for professional advice.

Portraits, prompts, and other generated writing are reflective tools. They are not diagnoses, safety assessments, legal advice, guarantees about a child's development, or a substitute for urgent or professional care.

Child profiles and Circle access

The adult who creates a child profile is responsible for the Circle built around that child, including who is invited, what role they receive, and what level of access is appropriate.

Some Circle members may have limited access by design. Hōbi may restrict certain views, details, or actions based on role, permission level, safety rules, or product settings.

  • Invite codes are single-use and expire.
  • Any non-owner member may leave a Circle at any time.
  • Owner and admin controls may be limited or delayed when safety rules require it.

Your content

You keep ownership of the text, voice transcriptions, photos, and other content you submit to Hōbi. To operate the service, you give Storytailor a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, process, and display that content only as needed to run, secure, improve, and support Hōbi.

You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to share any content you upload, including photos and information about a child or other adults.

  • Moment detail text must be truthful to the best of your knowledge.
  • If you use voice input, review the transcription before saving the moment.
  • Photos must not include content you do not have permission to share.
  • You may not upload unlawful, abusive, exploitative, or infringing content.
  • If you send feedback or suggestions about Hōbi, you allow us to use them to improve the service without additional compensation to you.

Hōbi gives Circle members three ways to manage moments after they are saved.

  • You can delete your own moment at any time. The 24-hour edit window for your own wording still applies.
  • A Circle owner or admin can hide one of your moments from the upcoming weekly Portrait. The moment stays visible in the Circle's feed and you keep authorship of it. Hiding is silent and reversible. The original observer is not notified.
  • Any non-admin member can report a moment they find concerning. Reports go to the Circle's admins and to Hōbi support for review, not back to the original poster.

AI-assisted features

Hōbi uses AI providers to help generate Portraits and certain writing assistance features, including suggesting a category from the text of a voice-transcribed moment after you choose to send it. Those outputs are generated from the information adults choose to capture in the app.

AI features in Hōbi are gated by two consent layers: an account-level toggle (“AI for moments”) that you control for your own moments, and a Circle-level toggle (“Weekly Portraits”) that the Circle's owner or admin controls for the Circle's Portrait. Both must be on for any of your moments to be used in that Circle's Portrait. If either is off, your moments are not sent to AI providers.

AI-generated output may be incomplete or imperfect. You are responsible for reviewing anything before you rely on it, share it, or use it outside your Circle.

Voice audio is transcribed on your iPhone. Hōbi does not save or send the audio to its servers or AI providers.

  • Portraits are designed to distill and synthesize captured moments, not invent facts.
  • AI output must not be treated as medical, mental health, legal, or educational advice.
  • We may change, improve, pause, or remove AI-assisted features at any time.

Optional connected services

Hōbi may let you connect optional outside services to your account or to a child's Circle. These services are off by default and require a separate permission flow before they can access Hōbi information or act on your behalf.

You are responsible for the instructions you give to a connected service. Hōbi may limit, pause, or revoke connected-service access when needed to protect children, users, or the service. You can revoke connected-service access through Hōbi controls when the feature is available.

Acceptable use

You agree to use Hōbi in a lawful, respectful, and safety-conscious way.

  • Do not use Hōbi to stalk, harass, shame, rank, or surveil other adults.
  • Do not upload sexual, exploitative, violent, hateful, or otherwise unsafe content.
  • Do not impersonate another person or misrepresent your authority to manage a child profile.
  • Do not attempt to bypass access controls, scrape the service, reverse engineer it, or interfere with its security or availability.
  • Do not use Hōbi for commercial resale, unauthorized automation, or any purpose outside the intended family-and-care-context use.
  • Automation is allowed only through Hōbi features or connected services you explicitly enable through Hōbi controls.

Availability, changes, and suspension

We may update Hōbi, change features, add or remove workflows, and apply reasonable limits to protect the service and its users.

We may suspend, restrict, or terminate access if we believe it is necessary to protect children, other users, Hōbi, our systems, or our legal obligations.

Ending your relationship with Hōbi

You may stop using Hōbi at any time. Where available, you may also leave a Circle, export your data, or request account deletion through Hōbi account controls or by contacting support.

If your account is deleted, suspended, or terminated, your right to use Hōbi ends immediately. Some records may remain for security, legal compliance, dispute resolution, backup restoration, or to protect children, other users, and the service.

  • If you are the adult who created a child profile, deleting your account may affect Circle access and child-profile administration.
  • Sections that by their nature should continue after termination, including content rights, disclaimers, liability limits, and your responsibility to us, survive account closure.

Regional rights and dispute resolution

If you have a concern about Hōbi, contact us first at support@storytailor.com and we will try to resolve the issue informally.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights you cannot waive under the law that applies to you. If you live in a place that gives you mandatory consumer protections or requires a local forum, those rights continue to apply.

Disclaimers

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Hōbi is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not promise uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or that every message, Portrait, invite, reminder, or notification will arrive on time or at all.

We do not warrant that AI-generated or user-submitted content will always be accurate, complete, or suitable for your intended use.

Limits of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Storytailor and its affiliates, officers, employees, and service providers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, or business interruption arising from or related to Hōbi.

Where the law allows a limitation, our total liability for claims related to Hōbi will not exceed the amount you paid us for the service during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred U.S. dollars if you did not pay us anything during that period.

Your responsibility to us

You are responsible for your use of Hōbi, the adults you invite, the content you submit, and the consents or permissions required for the information you share. You agree to indemnify and hold Storytailor harmless from claims, losses, and expenses arising from your unlawful use of the service, your content, or your breach of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

Changes and contact

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we may update the in-app date, provide notice in the app, or use another reasonable method.

If you continue using Hōbi after updated Terms take effect, you agree to the revised Terms.

Questions about these Terms can be sent to support@storytailor.com.
